Welcome to ONE MAN WENT TO MO
ONE MAN WENT TO MO
is a proposed community initiative encouraging men’s health awareness, cancer education, friendship, outdoor participation and practical support.
Our message is simple: actions speak louder than words. We can talk about health, wellbeing and community spirit, but we can also take practical steps to make a difference.
The initiative brings together two complementary strands: GO PRO, encouraging people to participate, learn and contribute, and MO SISTA, celebrating women who support awareness, connection and community action.
Both strands welcome people who want to learn, volunteer, share useful information or support somebody affected by illness. We believe that knowledge is power, an hour can make a difference, and asking for help should never be a source of shame.
Cancer affects individuals, families, friends, colleagues and communities. Our aim is to encourage reliable information, compassionate conversations and appropriate professional support.
ONE MAN WENT TO MO is a community-awareness concept, not a medical clinic, diagnostic service or cancer-treatment programme. Activities, venues, funding and partnerships will be confirmed before launch.
CURRENT CONSULTATION OPTIONS
GO PRO is our invitation to move from intention to action.
You do not need professional qualifications, sporting ability or previous volunteering experience to participate. You can start with an hour, a conversation, a community walk or a willingness to learn.
GO PRO could include proposed educational workshops, outdoor activities, fundraising challenges, men’s health conversations and opportunities to share practical skills.
Participants might learn about cancer awareness, explore everyday wellbeing habits, support a community event or help someone find a suitable professional service.
Going Pro does not mean pretending to have all the answers. It means being prepared to learn, recognise our limitations and take responsibility for the actions we can reasonably make.
We encourage participants to ask questions, check information and avoid making medical claims that cannot be supported by evidence.
MO SISTA — Support Is Strength
MO SISTA is the companion strand celebrating women as partners in awareness, friendship and community participation.
Women often support partners, parents, children, siblings, friends and colleagues through difficult times. They may help organise appointments, provide practical assistance, listen to worries or help someone find reliable information.
Their own wellbeing matters equally. MO SISTA welcomes conversations about women’s health, menopause, cancer awareness, confidence, caring responsibilities and the pressures of everyday life.
This is not about making women responsible for men’s health or assuming that every family has the same structure. It is about mutual respect and recognising that support can flow in every direction.
Sometimes support means helping organise a community event. Sometimes it means checking in on someone who seems withdrawn. Sometimes it means listening without trying to solve everything.
No one should feel pressured to disclose personal experiences, discuss medical information publicly or explain why they have chosen to take part.
FIGHTING CANCER — Awareness into Action
Fighting cancer involves research, evidence-based prevention where possible, appropriate screening, timely diagnosis, effective treatment and compassionate support.
Our contribution is to encourage awareness and help people find trustworthy information.
Cancer affects people of every sex and gender. Men may wish to learn about prostate, testicular, bowel and skin cancers. Women may wish to learn about breast, cervical, ovarian, bowel and skin cancers. These examples are not exhaustive.
Symptoms differ. A new lump, unexplained bleeding, a changing mole, persistent changes in bowel habits or another unexplained symptom does not automatically mean cancer, but it may require medical assessment.
We encourage people to follow current NHS screening guidance and contact their GP about persistent or concerning changes.
Awareness is not diagnosis. No single lifestyle habit, hair test, supplement, hydration product or community activity can guarantee cancer prevention or detect every cancer.
ONE MAN WENT TO MO does not diagnose or treat cancer. Our role is to promote informed conversations, encourage appropriate medical advice and signpost people towards established healthcare and cancer-support services.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Knowledge gives people a starting point for informed choices.
We want participants to understand the difference between awareness, screening, diagnosis and treatment.
Awareness helps people learn about symptoms and risk factors. Screening uses specific tests offered according to recognised guidance. Diagnosis requires appropriate medical assessment and investigations. Treatment decisions belong with the individual and their qualified healthcare team.
We encourage people to question exaggerated wellness claims, check the reliability of health information and ask professionals when they are unsure.
Health is personal. People have different circumstances, resources, responsibilities and support networks. There is no single answer that suits everybody.
Our aim is to make useful information more approachable without creating fear or giving false reassurance.
